A new version of EZVol, Version 8.0, is available as a demo for beta testing.  The new version adds the following:

1) Windows 7 compatability

2) Save/Retrieve stockpiles from multiple folders

3) Remembers last twelve folders containing stockpile analysis

4) Remembers last screen location and size on startup

5) New 3-D viewer allows user to view stockpile shape in shaded 3-D view, with mouse click “spin” controls

3-D LG Pit Otimizer

We are in the final stages of testing the MicroMODEL interface to the ThreeDify Flowpit program.  This program generates optimal mining shells using a true 3-dimensional Lerchs Grossman algorithm.  A Flowpit license can be purchased for use with any current MicroMODEL for $1700.  There is a yearly maintenance fee for the Flowpit program of $500 per year.

So far, preliminary tests have shown results of the Flowpit program agree to well within one percent of the final shell generated by the Datamine MaxiPit ™ program.  Check the prices and you’ll see that the Flowpit option offers significant savings over any other optimizer on the market today!

The MicroMODEL Money Matrix program is used to generate the appropriate input files to Flowpit, and all Flowpit output is converted back to MicroMODEL surface grids.  If you already know how to run MicroMODEL floating cones, then you know how to run Flowpit 3-D LG optimizations.

The OPCOG/SCHED program suite has been recently revamped.  The SCHED program allows the user to automatically schedule a set of mine phases, based on yearly targets.  Ore can be scheduled by tons mined per year, or by pounds/grams/ounces of recovered product.  Waste requirements can be forward smoothed in order to minimize fleet size changes.

Once a mine schedule has been produced, the Optimum Cutoff Grade program (OPCOG) can be used to optimize project net present value via a variable cutoff grade strategy.  The optimizer uses an algorithm based on the works of R. K. Lane and M. R. L. Blackwell.

Several iterations can be made between the scheduler and optimizer in order to produce a physically feasible mining sequence that optimizes the net present value of the mining operation.

If you have an interest in these programs, please contact us directly.  There is currently an interface to both the MicroMODEL and MineSight software systems.  New interfaces can be constructed at a nominal cost to the user.

On 12/30/09, a MicroMODEL user group meeting was held at the offices of TetraTech in Lakewood, Colorado.  Attendees included Don Tschabrun of Jipangu Resources, John Ziese and Don Hulse of Gustavson Resources, Rex Bryan and Lee Aga of TetraTech, and Randy Martin of RKM Associates.  Plans for updating MicroMODEL were discussed, including expanding certain geostatistical modeling capabilities, handling of rock code inputs, and improved menu navigation.  Don Tschabrun presented results from the new variable slope by rock type cone miner output.  This new feature allows the user to vary the slope, not only by azimuth, but also by rock type, when doing pit optimization studies.

At the request of Tetratech, a new feature was added to the MicroMODEL software option which displays 3-D block values in section.  The user can now display multiple sections along rows or columns at one time, greatly simplifying the process.

RKM Associates welcomes the newest user of MicroMODEL software, Bonanza Mining of Reno Nevada.  They have Gemcom software, but wanted to have the ability to do most of the things GEMS can do without the high cost of an additional license.  They chose MicroMODEL.  MicroMODEL has convenient tools for importing and exporting drillhole data, block models, digitized contours, TIN models, and 3-D wireframe mesh models to and from GEMS as well as most of the other popular (but expensive!) software systems.

MicroMODEL does pretty much everything these expensive systems can do, but at a fraction of the cost.  And, if there is a particular function you need that MicroMODEL doesn’t currently have, we can add that to the system at very little cost.  But, MicroMODEL already has a significant suite of mining software functions including drillhole data entry, geostatistics, topography modeling, contour mapping, kriging, mine reserve optimization, mine scheduling, and detailed mine design.

Many companies have invested large sums of money in mining software systems such as Minesight, Gemcom, Datamine, and Vulcan. On top of that, they spend considerable money training their employees how to use the software. Because of the costs involved, these companies tend to purchase only a limited number of user licenses. RKMA has entered a reseller agreement with Loggerhead Navigation of San Diego California (www.loggerheadnav.com) for the popular EZVol stockpile volume calculation software. The first order of business was to add the capability to import directly from the Laser Technologies, Inc. Mapsmart raw data format. At Loggerhead’s suggestion, RKMA will also soon be adding the capability to export stockpile wireframe models from EZVol to the popular Google Sketchup 3-D display program.

Mr. Don Tschabrun, mining engineer, has just purchased copies of MicroMODEL and PolyMap mining software for use in long term planning of the Florida Canyon Gold Mine. Tschabrun is an experienced user of the software, having been instrumental over the past twenty years in providing new ideas and valuable input towards improving both software packages. Tschabrun is especially adept at using MicroMODEL’s floating cone optimization software and PolyMap’s detailed pit design program. He is also a big fan of the interactive scheduling module, “Mansched”.

In early September, RKMA welcomed engineers Luis de la Fuente and Eduardo Davila of Xtierra, Canada for a one week workshop studying mine mineral modeling and mine planning techniques at our offices in Denver Colorado. They are currently working to create a 3-D geologic and grade block model for the Bilbao deposit, located in Central Mexico. Detailed training was provided for drillhole data entry, statistical analysis, topo controuring, variogram calculations, kriging, and pit optimization techniques.  They are both quite impressed with the bang for buck they get with MicroMODEL software!
